Kneeling down is a the natural position when praying. Reverence in having a sense of God’s holiness. To have this sense would be enough to bow our knees if we could and if there are no other reasons not to kneel. There are numerous examples of people in the Bible who knelt when they’re praying.
Pharisees in Jesus’ time loves to stand and pray aloud in places where a lot of people could see them. Jesus, on the other hand, withdraw Himself from the multitudes and seek solitary places to pray on His knees.
We need to kneel in prayer when in:
Private and personal prayers
Small groups or Bible studies
Family worship
Church services
When we are able to kneel
We need NOT to kneel when praying:
Having business transactions
Transit or inside a vehicle
Walking or on the street
Working outdoors
Sick or unable to move
Health problems that may cause pain or discomfort (especially for elderly people)
Public or crowded places
Although kneeling is the appropriate position when praying, there are circumstances that is just impossible for us to kneel, but it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible for us to pray. Bowing our knees is a privilege and should be natural for us when we approach the Majesty of heaven.
